Massey, Manitoulin tourism gets FedNor funding

Tourism development and economic growth in the Massey and Manitoulin regions received a financial boost July 10 from FedNor.

FedNor is investing $45,463 to enable the Massey Agricultural Society to upgrade the sound and lighting systems at the Massey Agri-Tourism Complex. In addition, the funding will help the Manitoulin Rodeo Committee build a horse ring and grandstands at the Manitowaning fairgrounds. The improvements, coupled with marketing activities, are designed to help the communities host provincially sanctioned rodeos.

“Today’s announcement will assist two area organizations boost the number of visitors to the region and help them take advantage of future growth opportunities,” said FedNor Minister Tony Clement.

“We appreciate the strong support from FedNor and the Government of Canada as we launch two new tourism events that will keep bringing visitors to this region back year after year,” said Mike Yeadon, president of the Massey Agricultural Society. The capital improvements will not only help with hosting rodeos, but other tourism events as well.”

The funding is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
