Health Sciences North is aiming to formally launch its new geriatric day hospital in mid-September, according to a spokesperson for the hospital.

The program, known as he Seniors’ Short Term Assessment and Treatment Centre (STAT), would be operational after the grand opening, Dan Lessard said in an email.

It will be located at the former Memorial Hospital site, now known as the Sudbury Outpatient Centre.

With STAT, frail seniors over the age of 65 would be provided with comprehensive services and supports in an attempt to prevent re-admission to hospital, as well as nursing home placement.

Lessard said clients would receive services such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy from a multidisciplinary treatment team.
