However, it would seem that announcement is still in the forecast. The Victoria Times Colonist newspaper reports the city has selected Elsner to replace retiring chief Jamie Graham, but right now, there aren't enough board members to finalize the decision.
Not even Victoria's mayor and vice-chair of the police board, Barb Desjardins, would confirm the information, says the Times Colonist, only adding that the city has a “preferred candidate.”
Several tweets this morning by CBC, both in Victoria and in Sudbury, speak to the fact Elser has been selected as the new chief, but again, Elsner has yet to make any sort of announcement.
And, while Elsner hasn't confirmed that information, his Twitter account seems to lean toward affirmation. In the past few days, Elsner has started following a number of Victoria-based twitter feeds including the Victoria Foundation (@VicFoundation) and Volunteer Victoria (@volvicbc).
