City combining EMS, fire services to 'achieve common goals'

When Greater Sudbury Fire Chief Danny Stack retires in December, the city will appoint Trevor Bain as executive deputy chief of Fire and Paramedic Services.

He will report directly to the chief of Emergency Services.

“The new appointment comes as part of direction from city council to move emergency services toward an integrated service delivery model that brings together two services (Emergency Medical Services and Fire) to achieve common goals,” said Tim Beadman, chief of Emergency Services.

“With the retirement of Fire Chief Danny Stack, scheduled for December 2013, the existing position of fire chief will be recreated as executive deputy chief of Fire and Paramedic Services.”

Integrating Emergency Services allows the city the opportunity to realign elements to give consistency among all services including operating procedures and sharing of resources for common activities between EMS and Fire, said a news release. Community and employee well-being, along with ensuring service excellence throughout the organization will remain top priority.

Bain brings a wealth of knowledge and experience attained through his career in public service. He started his career in 1985 with the Ontario Provincial Police, working out of Espanola and Parry Sound.

From there, he moved to the Office of the Fire Marshal, as a fire investigator and most recently served as deputy fire marshal with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.

He is no stranger to Greater Sudbury and looks forward to contributing to the effective and efficient delivery of Fire and Paramedic Services to residents of Greater Sudbury.
