If you're planning a trip to your local Greater Sudbury Public Library branch this month, take a look through your linen closet first.
Until Nov. 30, all 13 of the library's branches are collecting blankets to be distributed to local agencies which help people living in poverty or on the streets.
The blankets can be new or gently used, but they must be clean.
“We've been told blankets are what people need the most, whether it's people who can't afford to pay heat in their homes, or people that are homeless,” said Jessica Watts, the library's co-ordinator of outreach programs and partnerships.
On Nov. 21, the library is also holding a panel discussion on homelessness as part of its Words, Ideas, Inspirations series. The event takes place starting at 7 p.m. at the library's South End branch.
“We're just hoping to have a conversation that can get people talking about what we can do to help, especially as we move into the winter months, which is when we tend to think about the situation a bit more,” Watts said.
