Ward 8 Coun. Fabio Belli is in hospital after suffering what's being described as a mild stroke over the weekend.

While too tired for an interview Tuesday, Belli has sent a few messages on social media — on Facebook, as well as tweeting replies during Monday's community services committee meeting.

Belli said he expects to be out of hospital by Friday, and should make a full recovery.

Belli, 36, is a first-term councillor who represents the New Sudbury-area ward. He's married with two young children. A businessman, he was owner of a sporting goods store, Just Soccer, since 1999.

He's a strong supporter of building a new Sudbury Arena as soon as possible, and has spent the last couple of years working on a project to build a dome over the sports fields at St. Charles College to create a year-round, multi-sports facility.

During a debate over snow removal Monday night, Ward 7 Coun. Dave Kilgour joked that they should just put a dome over the entire city, and mused that it was too bad Belli wasn't there.

“I wish I was there,” Belli replied on Twitter. “I'll be back very soon,” he told a well-wisher on his Twitter feed.
