The Human League has once again partnered with area Esso gas stations for the Fill 'Er Up campaign, where volunteers will be on hand providing full service to patrons while raising funds for the Breakfast Club for Kids and PLAY programs.

The campaign begins Dec. 16 and runs until Dec. 20. Esso will donate one cent per litre to the Human League. Last year, the campaign raised $4,000. This year, organizers are hoping to better that.

“As in 2011 and 2012, the individual Esso owners and staff held friendly competitions to see which location could raise the most funds for the organization,” said the Human League in a news release. “Last year, the Lively Esso took top honours, beating out the Regent location by just $2.”

Donations jars will be placed at cash registers and Tim Hortons’ counters for those wishing to add a few dollars to their final total in support of the fundraiser.

There is currently a wait list for funding for the PLAY program.

“We’re hoping people respond generously to this year’s event,” said Leanne Lavoie, executive director of The Human League. “With a little help, we’ll be able to clear off our wait list and give all of those families an early Christmas gift.”

The Human League provides funding to schools with breakfast programs, and helps to feed more than 16,000 local children daily. The PLAY program has assisted more than 400 families in 2013 by subsidizing the cost of equipment and registration for extra-curricular activities for youth.
