The City of Greater Sudbury has approved enhancements to funding for not-for-profit arts and cultural institutions in the community.

Two new categories, Project Grants and Operating Grants, have been created under revised policies to replace previous community and major grant programs.

New funding streams have simplified the application process for municipal funding. Eligible requests under Project Grants include special or one-time activities or exhibits, skills development and acquisition of new equipment.

Operating Grants support organizations that have an ongoing presence in the city and an established track record of success.

The combined budget for the two funding streams is $577,000, a $47,563 increase over 2013.

Since 2005, the municipality has more than doubled its annual budget allocations to support the operations of not-for-profit arts and cultural institutions.

Application forms and information sessions for interested organizations will be available during the month January. For more information, phone 311 and ask for extension 4429.
