A Sudburian has thrown her hat into the ring to seek the vice presidency of the Professional Engineers Council of Ontario.

Sandra Ausma, PhD, P.Eng., has been one of two elected northern regional councillors since 2012, representing 2,540 licenced engineers across Northern Ontario. In 2013, she was appointed vice-president by council vote.

Ausma is one of two professional engineers running for the position in the 2014 elections. Of the 19 candidates, only two are women.

Voting began Jan. 24 and closes at 4 p.m. on Feb. 28.

There are currently about 77,000 licenced engineers in Ontario. There are more than 1,000 professional engineers in the Sudbury chapter, making it the largest in Northern Ontario.
