Meet and greet, pancake breakfast on tap tonight, Sunday
With a provincial election expected this spring, Andrew Olivier and Elise Idnani are campaigning to win the nomination, as they wait for a date to be set for the actual nomination meeting.
“These meet-ups are open to the public and provide an opportunity to meet with Elise and exchange thoughts and opinions,” says a news release from her campaign. “Over the coming weeks, each Speak-up Sudbury will be at a different location throughout the riding to accommodate all constituents.”
“Sudburians have a lot of great ideas and deserve to be heard,” Idnani is quoted as saying in the release. “I want to foster an environment where all people are welcome and feel welcome.”

For his part, Olivier is hosting a free pancake breakfast on Sunday, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at Carmichael Playground in Minnow Lake, 1388 Bellevue Ave.
Olivier, the 35-year-old businessman, community advocate and first-time politician, said in his news release he’s hoping people will bring the entire family out.
“We’ve been meeting a lot of Sudburians the past two months since I announced my intention to seek the nomination,” Olivier is quoted as saying. “Many of our events have been in restaurants and pubs and we really wanted to do something that’s more family friendly and on the weekend.
“So, my team came up with this great idea that will also help break up what’s been the longest winter I’ve ever seen.”
Besides free pancakes, activities at the event will include face painting and a petting zoo for the children, live music and skating.
There is no charge to attend, but people are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated the Sudbury Food Bank.
“I may be seeking the Liberal nomination but this event is a politics-free zone,” Olivier said in the release. “I promise no speeches and no pitches. I just want to meet more Sudburians and find out what’s on their minds these days — and what better way to do that than over a stack of pancakes and syrup.”
