OPP identify victim of fatal Hwy. 17 crash

The Ontario Provincial Police have identified the victim of the April 8 fatal collision on Highway 17 near Desbarats as 70-year-old Jose Cabral of Thunder Bay. Cabral was one of four people inside the vehicle when it crashed near Deplonty Road.

The Ontario Provincial Police have identified the victim of the April 8 fatal collision on Highway 17 near Desbarats as 70-year-old Jose Cabral of Thunder Bay.

Cabral was one of four people inside the vehicle when it crashed near Deplonty Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other three people were transported to hospital and later released.

OPP reopened the highway around 5:30 p.m. on April 8.

The Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a single motor vehicle collision that resulted in one fatality and sent other passengers to hospital.

The collision occurred on Highway 17, east of Desbarats at Deplonty Road around 12:24 p.m. on April 8.

The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Highway 17 remains closed in both directions.
