Police seek identity of man in dog-napping case

Greater Sudbury Police have confirmed they've charged a 50-year-old woman in relation to an incident where she allegedly broke into a Riverside Drive home April 9 and stole a dog.

The break and enter, as well as the dog's rescue by his owners on April 10, was caught on a dramatic video posted on

The police investigation continues, as they're looking for a man who was also allegedly involved in the break and enter. In security video captured at the home, and visible in the video story produced by, the man can be seen leading the dog away with the woman.

The woman suspected in the incident was arrested April 13 and charged with break, enter and theft, possession of property obtained by crime and mischief.

She was released with a promise to appear in court, which she's scheduled to do May 21.

The identity of the woman has not been released by police, but on social media, several users say they believe her to be a woman named Heather Zeffer.

Many readers of pointed to the subject of one of this newspaper's own stories as the basis for this assertion.

In a December 2010 video, a woman, Heather Zeffer, complained her dog had died after eating rat poison at a park on York Street. She appears to be the same woman as the suspect in the dog-napping incident.
