Public invited to sign book of condolences

The funeral for Ward 8 Coun. Fabio Belli will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at St. Andrew the Apostle Church on Barrydowne Road.

A visitation will be held Friday from 2-9 p.m. at Lougheed Funeral Home on Regent Street.

Belli, 37, died suddenly April 12 while in Florida visiting family. He had a stroke in November 2013, and had committed to a healthier lifestyle as a result. He leaves behind his wife and two young children.

After the service, Belli will be cremated at the Park Lawn Crematorium on Horobin Street.

A book of condolences is on display at Tom Davies Square until April 22 for members of the public who wish to sign it.

“As a council, we will miss Fabio’s passion and heartfelt commitment to our city,” Mayor Marianne Matichuk said in a statement. “It is important that the entire city have an opportunity to express their loss at this difficult time.”

The book is available for signing in the main foyer of Tom Davies Square and at all citizen service centres during regular business hours. It will be given to Belli’s family on behalf of the community.

And the event honouring Sudbury's Olympians that was scheduled for this morning at Tom Davies Square has been postponed. It will now be held later this year, depending on when the athletes are available.

Belli was was a small business owner before he was elected in Ward 8 in 2010.
