As they do every spring, potholes have been popping up throughout the city, which is why Northern Life decided to create the City of 'Crater' Sudbury Pothole contest.

As they do every spring, potholes have been popping up throughout the city, which is why Northern Life decided to create the City of 'Crater' Sudbury Pothole contest.

Since the contest first launched back in March, Northern Life received nearly 40 photos of the biggest and nastiest potholes in the city.

On May 1, Northern Life randomly drew one lucky pothole as the winner - a photo submitted by Gilles and Denise Philion.

"We were on Main Street in Blezard Valley," the couple wrote in an email to Northern Life. "(The pothole) blew out both of our tires on the right-hand side and bent the rims."

"We called 311 that night to report the pothole so no one else would hit it, and by the next morning it had been patched up."

As the winner of Northern Life's City of 'Crater' Sudbury pothole contest, the Philions received a $125 wheel alignment courtesy of Kal Tire.

Thanks to all the pothole photo submissions, Northern Life was able to construct an interactive pothole map to help Sudburians avoid the most problematic areas.
