Mine rescue responds to incident at Lockerby Mine

Rescuers assessing the condition of two contractors at the mine

First Nickel Inc. Has reported an accident occurred at its underground operations at Lockerby Mine near Sudbury.

Mine rescue operations are underway to locate and assess the condition of two contractors. All other workers have reported in safely.


All underground activities except emergency requirements were suspended immediately upon knowledge of the accident.

Greater Sudbury Police Const. Bert Lapalme told Northern Life police have been deployed to Lockerby Mine.

Lapalme could not confirm additional details about the incident.
