Sudbury foodies mingle with MasterChef finalist

Mohammed, who lived in Sudbury with her family from ages 13-23, credits Sudbury’s multiculturalism for inspiring her cooking style.

“I had a chance to grow up with a Ukrainian friend who taught me how to make perogies and my Italian brother-in-law who teaches me all his nonna’s recipes,” she said.

Mohammed will be a special guest judge in the upcoming Cook for Me Sudbury, a cooking contest put on by Northern Life’s sister publication, Sudbury Living magazine.

Home cooks will take part in a four-round, filmed cooking competition that will be turned into webisodes.

The competition will finish with a one-on-one showdown where the cooks will prepare dishes for the public at the Caruso Club on Oct. 24.

Mohammed is looking forward to being on the other side of the table and plans to be an honest judge who offers constructive criticism — something she said helped her during her time on MasterChef Canada.

“Chef Claudio said ‘Don’t over complicate things, pick one thing and do that one thing really well.’”

A lesson that Mohammed said she now applies not only to her cooking, but to her everyday life.
