Cystic Fibrosis Canada's Sudbury chapter will hold its annual Great Strides walk on May 25 to raise funds for research care and advocacy for the disease.

Cystic fibrosis is a fatal genetic disease that mainly affects the digestive system and lungs. The disease can lead to the formation of cysts in the pancreas.

Each week in Canada, two children are diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and one person dies of the disease. Half of the people who died of the disease in 2012 were less than 32 years old.

The Great Strides walk in Sudbury will start at the Elizabeth Street Gazebo in Bell Park at 11 a.m.

Thousands of Canadians are expected to participate in similar walks in 70 communities across the country.
