Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath was in town Monday, just hours after taking part in a leaders debate in Thunder Bay on issues affecting Northern Ontario.

About 100 supporters crammed into the NDP's campaign office on Regent Street for an election rally. Backed by Sudbury candidate Joe Cimino, Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas and Sault Ste. Marie candidate Celia Ross, Horwath said she had just learned Sudbury Downs was going to be closed for the year because it had failed to come to a funding agreement with the province.

She reiterated her pledge to restore the former Slots at Racetracks Program, which the Liberal government cancelled two years ago. She also promised at least $1 billion for Ring of Fire infrastructure, money for Maley Drive and for completing the 90 kilometres of Highway 69 still to be widened to four lanes.
