A Grade 11 student at Sudbury's École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur will receive a Canada Top 20 Under 20 Award on June 5.

Mélanie-Rose Frappier will be recognized for her role as an active community leader.

She has served as a youth ambassador for Canada by creating It’s Cool to be Healthy (C’est cool d’être en santé), an interactive program that educated students on the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition.

Frappier is also an active volunteer and has assumed a youth leadership role on a number of community organizations including the Aboriginal Advisory Education Committee, and the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples.

Frappier is a recipient of the National Aboriginal Youth Achievement Award and the Gathering Our Voices Aboriginal Youth Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership and dedication to improving her community.

Held annually, the Canada’s Top 20 Under 20 Awards recognize 20 young people under the age of 20 from across the country, chosen by members of the Order of Canada for their exceptional leadership, innovation and achievement.
