Peroni agrees to salary cut if she doesn't meet financial goals

Sudbury Progressive Conservative candidate Paula Peroni is putting her money where her mouth is.

She has signed a pledge agreeing that if she becomes the city's next MPP, she'll be held accountable, including losing a portion of her salary, if she fails to meet “the financial and red-tape reduction targets” assigned to her.

“I think people have to see that I'm about integrity and honesty, and I'm willing to commit to that,” Peroni said, at a June 6 campaign event held outside of a local pizza restaurant.

“The piece about cutting my own pay if I don't meet the financial requirements and the red-tape reductions is a piece that I'm very proud of within our party.

“We're putting our money where our mouth is, and if we don't produce, then we're going to feel it, as we should.”

Peroni said the Oath to Ontario pledge, to “all people who live and pay taxes in Ontario,” is one that PC Leader Tim Hudak will have the party's MPPs sign following the election, but she decided to commit to it in advance.

She also signed off on a promise not to support or accept any increases to her MPP pay before the budget is balanced.

The pledge also says Peroni won't support any tax increases without seeking explicit approval of the voters of Ontario, not spending tax dollars for political benefit and putting the creation of private sector jobs first.
