The event is being put on by the N’Swakamok Native Friendship Centre.
Aspiring musicians are invited to try their luck at “Aboriginal Idol,” slated to take place starting at 12 p.m. at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre.
Six-time Aboriginal Award-winning recording artist Jace Martin from Six Nations First Nation will also perform.
Chris Pheasant of Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve is this year’s master of ceremonies.
“I’m very honoured to be part of such an exciting and important event in Sudbury,” Pheasant said, in a press release. “This year will have many surprises and not to mention great music, food and laughs.”
“National Aboriginal Day is a day for all Canadians to come together in unity and celebrate in our rich First Nation culture and heritage, celebrate traditional music and cuisine,” said Aboriginal Day 2014 committee chair Teresa McGregor.
Admission to the event is free. Everyone is welcome to attend.
