Two students from the journalism program offered at the University of Sudbury have been selected to participate in the first Francophone Youth Parliament of the Americas, to be held Aug. 4-11 in Toronto.

Belinda Avia and Edrea Fechner are part of a group of eight young journalists from Quebec and Ontario who will cover the parliamentary simulation of the Francophone Youth Parliament of the Americas.

Students participating in the media component will receive training in political journalism from TFO 24.7 and then will provide media coverage for all of the activities for the week.

Avia and Fechner are the only two Ontarians selected for the media component of the Francophone Youth Parliament of the Americas.

“It is very exciting to be a part of this great francophone family of the Americas,” said Avia, in a press release.

The Francophone Youth Parliament of the Americas, which will host about 100 francophone youth from around the world, is organized in collaboration with the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly.
