Environment Canada has forecast a mix of sun and cloud with 70 per cent of showers or thunderstorms and risk of a severe thunderstorm this afternoon or this evening.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail,” said Environment Canada on its website. “There is also a risk of a tornado.
“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. In Canada, lightning kills up to 10 people every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.”
Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
Tonight's forecast calls for partly cloudy, becoming cloudy near midnight.
For Canada Day, showers are expected to end in the morning, then a mix of sun and cloud. There is a 30-per-cent chance of showers in the evening, with a risk of thunderstorms early in the morning.
