Splash pad complete at Ridgecrest Playground

Children who enjoy Ridgecrest Playground now have even more reason to go there, now that an accessible splash pad is complete.

The addition of a splash pad is the final stage of creating an inclusive accessible playground, said the city in a news release. The playground is already home to a fully accessible play structure complete with a swing, ice rink, a retrofitted building with wider doors, washrooms, a ramp, and an electric door opener.

The splash pad has been made possible after an additional grant of $50,000 on top of $125,000 already received through the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund. The City of Greater Sudbury contributed $123,654 to complete the accessible playground feature.

The objective of the Ridgecrest Playground enhancement is to promote inclusion and to provide a safe and accessible space for residents of all ages and abilities to be able to use and enjoy.

“We are deeply grateful to the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund, without which our vision would not have come to fruition,” said Ward 12 Coun. Joscelyne Landry-Altmann. “The accessible amenities will mean children of all abilities can play together in a safe and fun venue which will give them a sense of belonging. The addition of the splash pad has made Ridgecrest Playground a truly barrier-free park.”
