Kaleb Sauvé of Lasalle Secondary School captured top honours at the FedNor Business Plan Challenge last month.

Future entrepreneurs from Greater Sudbury and Manitoulin area showcased their creativity and business acumen June 4.

More than 70 students from six schools competed for the title of Best Business Plan throughout the day at Cambrian College.

Sauvé’s business, Klarion, is a 3D graphics service that constructs and customizes interior and exterior spaces in a 3D environment for customers who may pursue interior renovations or landscape upgrades.

He received more than $8,500 in prizes, including $1,000 from FedNor through the Regional Business Centre, a $2,500 bursary for any post secondary school in Sudbury, given by the City of Greater Sudbury, and $5,000 in radio advertising.

Participants were asked to develop a realistic, innovative and comprehensive business plan along with a trade show booth to showcase their work. Local business leaders judged the competition.

“Trade shows provide an authentic learning experience for students by bringing together the classroom curriculum and the business world,” said Rainbow District School Board director of education Norm Blaseg.

“The FedNor Business Challenge gives students an opportunity to experience what it is like to be an entrepreneur.”
