Greater Sudbury Police serve up lunch at the Blue Door Soup Kitchen

Roast beef was on the menu today at the Blue Door Soup Kitchen.

Volunteers got a helping hand, though, in serving it to those in need. Sudbury's finest, officers with Greater Sudbury Police Services, were on hand to help prepare and serve meals. They were joined by members of the GSPS board of directors.

"We want to meet some of our marginalized population and people in need, and have a positive experience with them," said Staff Sgt. Robin Tiplady.

This is the third year that police and kitchen staff have teamed up and taken part in helping serve the meal. The staff at the soup kitchen is made up of mostly volunteers, who prepare and serve meals five days a week, to more than 300 people.

"They do tremendous work in the community, and for the community, and we want people to be aware of that and acknowledge that as well," said Tiplady.

Tiplady, along with Chief of Police Paul Pedersen, were among members of the GSPS senior staff that served hot meals from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For more information or to volunteer, contact the Blue Door Soup Kitchen, at 705-675-5300.
