The City of Greater Sudbury is reminding residents that pets are not allowed to swim at public areas in the city.
Despite the popularity of letting dogs cool off at the beach, under city bylaws, animals are not, in fact, allowed in the water at local beaches, parks and recreational areas.
Pets must also be kept on a leash no longer than nine feet when visiting city parks, other than the off-leash dog park on Second Avenue.
Additionally, the city reminds pet owners to remove pet feces from streets and public parks as it can introduce harmful bacteria into the water. High bacteria levels can result in the temporary closure of public beaches.
