Gisèle Regimbal has been appointed Laurentian University's chief of staff to the president, effective Aug. 18.

“We are pleased to welcome Ms. Regimbal back to Laurentian in this critical role,” said Laurentian University president Dominic Giroux, in a press release.

“As Chief of Staff, Ms. Regimbal will lead the communications and marketing departments, as well as the President’s office. The Chief of Staff also leads efforts to further the University’s national recognition and oversees internal communications, while ensuring effective government relations.”

Born and raised in Sudbury, and a former student at Laurentian in Sports Administration, Regimbal is currently Policy Advisor with the Strategic Planning and Program Development Branch of the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries (AAF).

Regimbal has more than 30 years of experience in communications, marketing and public policy, having run her own consulting firm in communications and marketing.

She served as senior program officer with Sport Canada, as director of communications and marketing for the Canada Games Council, and as director of communications for the New Brunswick departments of Intergovernmental Affairs and AAF.

In those capacities, she served as media spokesperson, developed and implemented successful marketing strategies, advised federal and provincial ministers on communications and policy, and enhanced the branding of the Canada Games. She managed media relations at numerous Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth and Francophonie Games.

“It is exciting to come back home to join such an outstanding team,” said Regimbal.

“Laurentian University is on the move on the national stage, and I look forward to contributing to that momentum.”

A co-founder of the Fédération des élèves du secondaire franco-ontarien (FESFO), she also obtained a B.Soc.Sc. in leisure studies at the University of Ottawa.

Regimbal’s appointment was recommended by a search committee composed of five members of the University’s executive team; the associate vice-president, administration and external relations (Barrie); and the associate vice-president, academic and Francophone affairs.

Laurentian’s Chief of Staff from September 2009 until December 2013, Chris Mercer, continues to serve on the University’s executive team, as he was promoted in January 2014 as executive director, student life, enrolment management and international.
