An elderly resident at Finlandia Village's Hoivakoti Nursing Home died in hospital July 25 after falling in the dining hall and suffering a head injury after striking the wall.

The fall happened after a minor disagreement with another resident, but police determined the fall was an unintentional accident.

“All of the staff at Finlandia Village would like to express our deepest sympathy to family and friends,” said David Munch, the CEO of Finlandia Village, in a written statement. “This is truly a sad day.”

Munch said in the statement that safety is the number one concern at Finlandia Village.

“We are committed to working with all of its partners to deliver the safest, highest quality care and support possible to older adults,” he wrote.

Representatives with Finlandia Village have said they will not do any media interviews related to the accident out of respect for the deceased family's privacy.
