After getting an early taste of high school last spring, Churchill Public School's Grade 7 and 8 students will be back at their elementary school as of the first day of school Sept. 3.

The students attended classes at Lasalle Secondary School from March until June during renovations at Churchill impacting their classrooms.

The $4.4 million construction and repair work project includes the construction of a new gym, the conversion of the old gym into early learning kindergarten rooms and the replacement of part of the school's roof.

Construction should be completed by the end of October, said Rainbow District School Board director of education Norm Blaseg.

The new, “huge” gym will allow the school's students to participate in more competitive sports, including volleyball and basketball, as it meets provincial guidelines, he said.
