Students travelling from other communities to attend Laurentian University, Collège Boréal or Cambrian College will receive a warm welcome — and free stuff — through local partnerships created under the umbrella of the Greater Sudbury Learning City Initiative.

The Welcome Students Adventure Package provides post-secondary students and their families with Play-All-Day Passports to Science North or Dynamic Earth, plus discounts on hotel accommodations. More special offers for students are available at offcampusperks.ca and learnmorelivebetter.ca/movein.

Signs, banners and window decals in high traffic areas of Greater Sudbury, including a temporary billboard on Highway 69 South, will encourage students to “Learn more. Live better”.

“Post-secondary students bring energy and talent to our city, as well as economic benefit,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk. “On behalf of City Council, I thank all of our partners for extending a warm welcome to our newly arriving students and their families.”

Laurentian University has a post-graduation employment rate of 94.8 per cent, one of the highest of all Ontario universities, and is on-target to increase its proportion of international students to eight per cent by 2017.

Cambrian College is experiencing growth for a third consecutive year in first-year enrolment and international student population.

Collège Boréal maintains the highest score in graduate satisfaction and the highest graduate rate amongst 24 Ontario colleges.
