While children sigh, parents rejoice. Another summer vacation has come and gone, and come tomorrow, thousands of students in Greater Sudbury head back to class.

This includes the Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, le Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and le Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario.

There will be no early dismissal on the first day. Last week, NorthernLife.ca stopped by Collège Notre-Dame for a barbecue to welcome Gr. 9 students to high school. While we were there, we asked parents about their first day of high school. Check it out here.

In a press release, Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) said it will welcome 7,000 students in its 37 schools this year.

“We are always excited to see our new and returning students,” said Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSCNO director of education, in a press release. “With the support of our staff, parents and partners, we are committed to offering a quality French language Catholic education to all of our students.”

The Rainbow board will welcome 13,433 students this fall. It's the largest school board in Northern Ontario with 35 elementary schools and nine secondary schools in Sudbury, Espanola, Manitoulin and Shining Tree.

Rainbow board students will be presented with a Guide for Students and Parents/Guardians the first week of school.

The guide contains important information that will serve as a handy reference throughout the school year.

“The Guide for Students and Parents/Guardians is our first step to enhance communication between the home and the school,” said Rainbow board director of education Norm Blaseg, in a press release.

“We invite parents/guardians and students to keep this publication as a handy reference throughout the year. It contains information about services, programs and policies, including the Code of Conduct. It also features key dates, such as school holidays, provincial assessments, professional activity days, secondary school examination days, information nights and system-wide events.”

The Guide for Students and Parents/Guardians is also available online at www.rainbowschools.ca.
