Ride for Diabetes Research on Sept. 26

The organization encourages teams of five people to sign up for the stationary bike-a-thon and raise funds for type 1 diabetes research.

Each member will ride for seven minutes to energetic music.

More than 300,000 Canadians have type 1 diabetes and the number increases by three to five per cent each year.

By 2020, it is estimate that diabetes will cost the Canadian health-care system $16.9 billion per year.

Last year, the Sudbury event raised more than $40,000 and the goal for 2014 is to raise $50,000.

So far, more than 50 corporate teams have signed up for the event.

The Ride for Diabetes Research starts at 11 a.m. and will feature three rides on the hour.
