Just a couple days before the United Nation's Climate Summit of world leaders, communities around the world are taking part in a People's Climate March on Sept 21, billed as the single largest global action on climate change ever.

The march was announced in May 2014 by 350.org, an environmental organization that has been endorsed by over 325 international organizations, schools, churches and communities around the world, as a response to the scheduled UN Climate Summit in New York City on Sept 23.

Described as "an invitation to change everything", the march calls for local communities to advocate global action against climate change.

In Sudbury, activists and citizens are invited to gather at the Market downtown to deliver a climate petition to the federal representatives in attendance. The event is open to everyone, and all politicans, all parties, and all levels of government are welcome.

Organizers also made a point of asking municipal election candidates to attend and show their support.

The event kicks off at 1 p.m. with music and the creation of a banner. Footage from the climate march in New York City will be streamed live. At 1:30 p.m., a massive group photo is planned under the Bridge of Nations, in significance of Sudbury's stance on creating a 100-per-cent green energy future by 2050.

Organizers also stressed the event is non-partisan and not a political rally.

In the morning, St. James Anglican Church, 1815 Paris Street, and St Patrick's Catholic Church on Walford Road, will share Christian messages about climate change at 10 a.m. Sudbury Sikh Sangat (10:30 a.m.) and Sudbury Prarthana Samaj Hindu temple (11 a.m.), will be including climate change as part of their spiritual services Sept. 21, as well.
