For the second time, a local breast cancer survivor will share her story with medical students at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
Kimberley Wahamaa, operations manager with Northern Ontario Business, was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2013.
Since her treatment, Wahamaa has become a vocal advocate for other breast cancer patients and for research efforts to eventually find a cure for the disease.
“Nobody wants to talk about it, but you have to talk about it,” she said. “Being in media, I just feel like I have a voice.”
Wahamaa started the website trustyourbust.com for breast cancer patients to share their stories.
On Sunday, Oct. 19, Wahamaa will host an event at Verdicchio Ristorante to raise funds for breast cancer research through the Northern Cancer Foundation.
On Friday, Oct. 31, the Trust Your Bust Fund will host a Halloween dance at the United Steelworkers, to again raise funds for the Northern Cancer Foundation and breast cancer research conducted in Sudbury through the Advanced Medical Research Institute of Canada.
The Halloween event, called Boo'bs and Beards, will challenge men to grow out their beards and colour them pink the night of the dance.
Prizes will be awarded for the best beards.
