Sudbury's J.Corsi Developments Inc. was the only developer from Northern Ontario to win an Ontario Home Builders' Association award of distinction at a ceremony in Ottawa on Monday, Sept. 22.

“When they said 'Sudbury' we all jumped out of our chairs,” said Laura Higgs, executive officer with the Sudbury and District Home Builders' Association. “It was great to see Corsi win.”

The company won the architectural award for the most outstanding one-storey production built home for a model called The Vermouth.

“It's got this big impressive stone front that comes out on the roadside, with an arched window on top,” said Paul Corsi, the company's project manager. “It's a dramatic house.”

J.Corsi Developments plans to build at least five of the homes, which have already proven to be popular with seniors, because they contain no stairs, and are fully wheelchair accessible.

Corsi said the award helps put the company, and Northern Ontario, on the map when it comes to home building.

Most of the award recipients were larger companies from southern Ontario, where demand is greater than in the North.

“We cater to a niche market,” Corsi said.

J.Corsi Developments won a Home Builders' Association award of distinction in 2006 for the best custom-built home under 2,500 feet, and was nominated in the same category again in 2012.
