Two people attempting to cross Wahnapitae River in a boat ended up swimming for their lives when their boat overturned Oct. 30, said Greater Sudbury Fire Services.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 3:05 p.m. to a report of a boat overturned on the river. Upon arrival, the two occupants were found safe in a residence. They had been wearing life-jackets.

They got caught in the current, and swept downriver, where their boat overturned.

The public is reminded to stay clear of the cold fast-moving water with the recent heavy rainfalls.
