Students at a nearby First Nations school and after-school program have the latest in technology, thanks to a partnership between Vale and One Laptop per Child.
Young people at Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik School in Sagamok Anishnawbek and Atikameksheng Anishnawbek First Nations (AKA Whitefish First Nation) received their laptops Nov. 4.
The One Laptop per Child program is part of a national network of more than 5,000 Aboriginal youth who utilize OLPC Canada technology for skill development in areas such as literacy, math, science and Aboriginal languages.
Each laptop and tablet also features a library of more than 100 e-books including children’s stories by First Nations, Métis and Inuit authors.
Aboriginal education programs are added to the OLPC Canada network when partnerships are formed with corporate sponsors and service groups.
