Sudbury Secondary School will be ready when Santa Claus rolls into town Saturday.

Staff and students have been busy assembling their float for the Santa Claus Parade, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

The school will bring this year's theme of Christmas Past and/or Christmas future to life with a 1980 to 2080 float. Last week, the school had a homeroom challenge to collect water bottles to create futuristic water bottle Christmas trees.

The Sudbury Secondary School float will showcase live entertainment and student artwork.

"Our staff and students have enjoyed planning and preparing their float," said Principal Bob Deeth, in a news release. "We look forward to presenting our creativity and school spirit to the community at the Santa Claus Parade as we usher in the festive season.”

Meanwhile, NorthernLife.ca, Sudbury Living Magazine and Sudbury Sports Magazine are also getting in on the fun. People are invited to gather outside the Northern Life building, located at 158 Elgin St., from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 22, at our Santa's Cabin.

Staffers will hand out free hot chocolate and candy canes courtesy of Vrab's Independent Grocers and Giant Tiger, free Sudbury Living Parents magazines and Northern Life colouring contest pages (with a chance to win a $50 Toys 'R Us gift certificate).

Furthermore, Downtown Sudbury, The United Way Centraide and SMS Rents are throwing a party to welcome everyone's favourite jolly fellow in the red suit.

Join in on the fun Saturday before the parade at the Santa Watch Party with festivities scheduled to take place Downtown on Larch Street between Elgin and Durham streets from 2-5:30 p.m.

The Santa Watch Party will feature live music, free wagon rides, free santa tattoos, free children's activities and a variety of everyone's favourite festival foods - kettle corn, twisted potatoes, beaver tails, cotton candy, hamburgers and hotdogs.

The parade itself will likely include about 80 floats, bands and marching groups.

It begins at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Ste. Anne and winds through the downtown, ending at the intersection of Elgin Street and Ste. Anne Road.
