The deal still needs to be approved by Laurentian University, which owns the land.
“We're bursting at the seams here,” Therrien said. “We're running out of space inside, so we're looking at possibilities and will determine if we need to increase beds possibly.”
Once the land expansion is approved, Therrien said the first step will be to add temporary parking spaces, and eventually move on to more permanent parking.
The hospice is working on its strategic plan for 2014 to 2018, he said, and will use the process to decide what else it can do with the extra land.
Maison Vale Hospice recently launched a pilot pediatric care project, and Therrien said there could be a need for children's beds in the long term.
