Update:

Power has now been restored to all 528 customers affected by an outage which hit New Sudbury at 1:30 pm this afternoon. At its height, power was out from the Barrydowne/Lasalle intersection northeast to Gary St., including Cambrian College and Lasalle Secondary School, says Greater Sudbury Hydro.

Greater Sudbury Hydro was able to restore power to most customers within an hour, with the Shell Gas station, Kennedy St., Lasalle Secondary and addresses on Barrydowne between Lasalle and Cambrian remaining out until just after 3:30pm.

A series of momentary outages were necessary while workers located the exact cause, which was a defective cable at the Barrydowne Substation. That cable has now been replaced.

Update:

Power has been restored to most areas following an outage northeast of the Lasalle Boulevard-Barrydowne Road intersection, Greater Sudbury Utilities reported at 2:30 p.m. today. The affected areas included Cambrian College and Lasalle Secondary as far as Gary Street.

"We do not know what caused this outage," said GSU spokesperson Wendy Watson in an email. "Crews are still looking into it."

Watson said there will be a "momentary" outage later today while the utility arranges some switches.

"But hopefully, all (power) will be restored after that."
