Many stores in Sudbury's downtown will be closed Dec. 26, and will instead have their Boxing Day hours on Dec. 27, says Downtown Sudbury.

The Rainbow Centre, along with a number of locally owned shops, boutiques and galleries will be closed Dec. 26, said the business improvement area in a press release.

While Sudbury's city council voted to repeal the city's shopping hour bylaws in its first meeting Dec. 9, many downtown stores have chosen to remain closed Boxing Day.

“Downtown is what is unique to Sudbury and Dec 27th is a Boxing Day tradition that we want to keep going downtown,” said Downtown Sudbury chair Jeff MacIntyre, in a press release.
