Thanks to several local businesses, Christmas will be a little brighter for clients of the Blue Door Soup Kitchen.

Maslack Supply, the Pizza Joint, About Feet Medical Foot Care, the Ukrainian Credit Union, Laurentian Chrysler and Tim Hortons all chipped in for a few holiday treats for the clients.

That included a full turkey dinner served up Dec. 24, as well a few small presents, including $5 Tim Hortons gift cards, socks, hats and candy.

Pizza Joint owner Terry Newman will also be throwing a pizza party for soup kitchen clients in the near future.

“It's something that a lot of people that need the soup kitchen don't get to do very often,” Newman said. “It's a way of giving back and giving them something they can't have regularly.”

Bob Johnston, who takes care of public relations for the soup kitchen, said the organization wouldn't be able to afford to do this for its clients if it weren't for the donations.

The soup kitchen started throwing the Christmas party for clients three years ago, and it seems to be getting bigger and better each year.

Johnston said he was looking forward to the reactions of clients.

“Christmas is for everybody,” he said. “Nobody should be left out, no matter what criteria they fit in.”
