About 30 Greater Sudbury Hydro (GSH) customers in Capreol will experience a brief power interruption Jan. 21.

GSH is assisting Hydro One as it moves an oversized transformer through Capreol to the Hanmer Transmission Station.

The transformer is approximately 7.5 metres high and 30.5 metres long and weighs more than 400 tonnes. The size means some power lines and telecommunication lines need to be temporarily detached so the transformer can safely pass.

The outage will occur sometime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., GSH said in a news release.

All affected Greater Sudbury Hydro customers will be notified prior to the interruption.

GSH apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks customers for their understanding.
