A house fire on Ash Street has left one person homeless after it caused an estimated $100,000 in damage, said Greater Sudbury Fire Services.

The lone occupant of the home was injured and had to be evacuated.

Seventeen firefighters from three stations responded to the call Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Fire damage is listed as moderate, and smoke damage is listed as severe.

“Cooking is the No. 1 cause of home fires,” said Greater Sudbury Fire Services. “Don't leave your cooking unattended. Always stay in the kitchen while you're cooking — especially if using oil or high temperatures. If a pot catches fire, slide a proper-fitting lid over the pot and turn off the stove. Do not move the pot. Let it completely cool off.”
