College of Trades a Liberal tax grab: Peroni

PC candidate Paula Peroni was joined today by Garfield Dunlop, MPP (Simcoe North) and hairstylists from across Sudbury to speak up for hairdressers who are bullied by the Ontario College of Trades.

“The College of Trades has not done anything to help us,” stated Debbie Prise. “I must pay $160 to enrol and another $135 per year to keep my membership and I get nothing, it’s like a slap in the face,” Prise continued.

Dunlop has been meeting with hairstylists across this province and he has found that they are adamantly opposed to the College of Trades and the new Trades Tax being imposed upon them.

“I am hearing some truly sad stories about journeyman candidates who are under pressure by this new level of Liberal Government bureaucracy. They have worked really hard to be in this profession and risk losing it all,” Dunlop noted.

“They have been told via letters from the Ministry of Trades Colleges and Universities that if they cannot pass their trade’s exam and pay membership fees to the College of Trades, they will lose time already spent in training and the ability to train further in their selected trade.”

“People are trying to make ends meet, it’s just one more tax that comes directly from hardworking people,” stated Peroni. “The Liberals have created another mess and imposed another new tax. When it is going to stop?”

Elections Day is Feb. 5, the people of Sudbury will have a chance to say NO to the Liberal tax and spend policies and YES to putting you first.
