Update:

The City of Greater Sudbury warned residents they should conserve water, due to a water main break, but in an update the city said water pressure is normal.

The city initially thought the trunk – which is a main line that carries water to the treatment plant – was affected by the break.

A hydrant blew near the Wahnapitae Water Treatment Plant, and because of the large amount of water it released, city crews initially thought it was a due to a trunk main issue.

An investigation revealed it not to be the case, and hydrant was fixed.

Original story:

Crews are responding to a trunk main break in the Coniston area this morning, from the Wahnapitae Water Treatment Plant, says the City of Greater Sudbury.

Water for the Sudbury area will now be drawn from the Ellis Reservoir.

Residents in the Sudbury water service area, including Sudbury, New Sudbury, Garson, and Minnow Lake, are asked to conserve water by reducing non-essential uses while repairs are underway. Residents may experience water discolouration and/or pressure fluctuations.

Coniston, Wahnapitae, and Markstay are not affected.

It is anticipated that repairs may take some time as this is a break in a difficult to reach area; updates will be provided as information is available.
