The Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA) is offering artists a series of workshops Feb. 2-6 designed to help them make money from their work.

Topics include how to get the most out of your camera phone, using photographs to make money, short story writing, getting published, introduction to home recording, distributing your music, sewing with recycled materials, starting your own social enterprise, introduction to fine art and take your art to market.

“We want to provide artists with the information and skills they need to move their work into the marketplace,” said Kaarina Ranta, program co-ordinator at NISA, in a press release.

NISA, a mental health organization, regularly offers arts programming for its membership, but is opening up this workshop series to the public.

“We want our membership to take advantage of these workshops, but we have also reserved spaces for the general public,” Ranta said.

“An arts community is strengthened when connections are made and knowledge is shared. We have so much talent in this city, and any opportunity to share that knowledge should be available to all.”

Visit nisa.on.ca for times and descriptions of the workshops.
