Strong odour envelopes Sudbury Friday morning

A strong odour of rotten eggs or sewage around town is raising questions about its origin. Some suspect the odour may come from the Domtar paper mill in Espanola, and has made its way to Sudbury due to the cold weather and prevailing winds.

NorthernLife.ca has put in calls to the city, who are also investigating the source of the odour.

City spokesperson Shannon Dowling said they have already put in calls with partners, including Vale and Union Gas, to find out the source of the strong smell.

However, in an tweet, Union Gas said it is not the source of the odour.

"Union Gas has investigated calls related to unusual odour in Sudbury; tests of the air around the city confirms it is not natural gas," the utility said in its tweet.
