The North East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) has announced it has a new primary care lead for the Sudbury-Manitoulin-Parry Sound area.

Dr. Reena Dhatt, a family physician based in Sudbury, has taken over the position, and will work closely with the North East LHIN to improve access and co-ordination of care for people living in the Sudbury, Manitoulin and Parry Sound area.

Dhatt will look at local data that details performance, to find ways to improve care for seniors and others with complex conditions – ensuring all receive the same quality and evidenced-based care.

“Dr. Dhatt is a wonderful addition to our North East LHIN team,” said North East LHIN CEO Louise Paquette, in a press release.

“Her energy, experience and involvement in multiple aspects of primary care are welcomed to our LHIN team. She’s constantly pushing herself and others to learn more – whether through her work at NOSM (Northern Ontario School of Medicine) as teacher or as a local education group lead with other doctors.”

Dhatt has a 3,000-patient practice in Sudbury and provides allergy consultations for Northern Ontario.

She has had experience in elderly care as a former medical director at Extendicare Falconbridge and St. Gabriel’s Villa. She continues to be very active in academics at NOSM participating at both undergraduate/postgraduate programming at NOSM as well as the Physician Assistant program shared between NOSM and University of Toronto.
